  • Hiking in Valle de Cocora
    Day 5

    Hiking in Valle de Cocora

Near the charming colonial town of Salento, this remarkably lush (and thankfully protected) cloud forest gives the phrase “verdant green” new meaning. Add in the soaring, skinny wax palms—Colombia’s national tree—which cheerfully dot the mountainous landscape, and the Valle de Cocora (Cocora Valley) makes for an outstanding hiking opportunity that you won’t want to miss.

When we arrive, we experience the Cocora Valley by heading straight through the wax palm  trees for a 1-2 hour hike, where you’ll capture some amazing photos. In the afternoon you can enjoy a walk through the four colonial streets of Salento. Founded in 1850, the city is a shining example of typical guadua and bamboo influenced architecture with brightly colored facades and is even more beautiful in the presence of the surrounding Andean views.
